The Operational Analysis Unit (OAU) is seeking an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking Senior Intelligence Analyst to join a specialist team delivering complex evidential analysis in support of serious, major, and complex investigations. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Operational Intelligence Analyst or Senior Analyst with proven, demonstrable expertise in telecommunications analysis, evidential product development, and the interpretation and presentation of complex analytical evidence within the criminal justice system.
This role forms part of the force’s transition to full compliance with the Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice and will be instrumental in shaping evidential analytical standards across the OAU. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting investigations through the leadership, oversight, and quality assurance of evidential products, primarily cell site analysis for geolocation, ensuring compliance with the Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice (DIG-200) and that all evidential products meet the required legislative, regulatory, and organisational standards for judicial proceedings. At this stage, detailed knowledge of the Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice is desirable, rather than essential, though a willingness to learn and become compliant is expected.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide quality assurance and compliance of analytical support and products.
- Ensure analytical support is provided at a strategic, tactical, and operational level to mitigate threat, risk, and harm.
- Lead and develop innovation and best practice in intelligence research & analysis to key stakeholders across the Force.
- Supervise and develop Intelligence Analysts and Intelligence Researchers, recommending improvements to analytical systems and methodology.
- Inform decision making around the prioritised deployment of the analytical capability, to ensure effective analysis is undertaken and understood.
- Represent CS Analysis and analytical products at District, Force, and Regional events.
Skills and experience:
- To be educated to degree standard or equivalent in a statistical, research or social science field, or to have extensive work experience in intelligence analysis.
- Able to review and assess individual and team performance against expected standards (including IPP certification), providing objective and effective feedback and ensuring corrective actions are taken where necessary.
- Able to plan and to allocate work appropriately within a team, and able to identify and mitigate risks to delivery.
- NIAT (Analyst Foundation Course) qualified, with a highly developed knowledge of analytical skills, core NIM products and intelligence gathering (including evaluation) to interpret complex data.
- To have recent, extensive, demonstrable experience in an analytical environment, dealing with confidential and sensitive material and knowledge of specialist software (e.g., i2, CSAS, ESRI).
- Ability to quality assure intelligence products and negotiate with/influence senior managers based on data and analytical outcomes.
- Experience of managing issues of a sensitive and confidential nature / ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
