Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Force compliance with strategic codes of practice and system Codes of Connection, including the Authorised Professional Practice, Police Digital Service IA Governance requirements, national policing community network compliance requirements, relevant legislation and the NPCC Community Security Policy.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic system risk assessment plan and manage technical risk assessments of all Force systems.
  • Produce detailed Information Risk Assessment Reports for the Head of Data Assurance and SIRO, including recommendations on Force procedures and additional security controls required.
  • Responsible for agreeing the scope of any IT Health Check and ongoing management of all vulnerability reports and all actions that are generated, negotiating with relevant stakeholders when required.
  • Manage and coordinate any Data Assurance auditing that is required as part of Government, Police Digital Service and national guidance, policy, and any third‑party codes of connection.
  • Advise on and promote all aspects of Data Security, in order to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, government, national and local policy.
  • Provide necessary input into all projects, tenders, and new systems to ensure that Data Security matters are agreed at the earliest opportunity.
  • Responsible for physical security risk assessments on Force, supplier, and partner premises to ensure the security of police data and produce subsequent reports outlining recommendations to ensure data security and compliance with relevant legislation, government, national and local policy.
  • Manage processes to ensure that all removable media, partner agency/contractor use of Force systems and requests for access to other user accounts are dealt with in line with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assess new legislation and national policy and guidance on data security and provide specialist advice to the Head of Data Assurance and Senior Information Risk Owner to ensure appropriate action is taken.
  • Represent the force at National bodies and develop/maintain effective networks to remain up‑to‑date and operate best practice in respect of data assurance.
  • Investigate and report on security incidents in line with appropriate policy liaising with Professional Standards and IS, as well as any relevant external authorities.
  • Responsible for management of Data Security Support Officer.
  • Reports to Head of Data Assurance.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 12 months experience of implementing Data Security and HMG Security Policy Framework requirements.
  • Minimum 12 months experience working with Data Protection issues.
  • In‑depth knowledge of principles of Data Security.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the principles of the Government Security Classification (GSC).
  • Must be educated to degree level or equivalent, including relevant professional qualification.
  • Experience in producing risk management documentation.
