Description: As a qualified Motor Vehicle Body Repairer you will be capable of carrying out a high standard of damage repair, refurbishment and painting of police vehicles and plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out repairs of damaged vehicles to a high standard, assess damage and prepare costings.
  • Advise Command Team on repair viability when required.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on police vehicles, plant or equipment using manufacturer’s in‑house electronic diagnosis equipment.
  • Attend incapacitated vehicles at the roadside or vehicle base and recover or repair them when necessary.
  • Strip and repair accident damaged fleet using modern methodology.
  • Work at any Police workshop on short‑ or long‑term assignments, as indicated by Vehicle Fleet Management.
  • Attend training courses, both technical and personal development, either in‑house or at manufacturer premises, occasionally requiring overnight stay.
  • Complete all approved Vehicle Fleet Management forms and miscellaneous paperwork precisely and accurately.
  • Perform annual health assessments as required by the role.

Skills and Experience

  • Must possess a City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Body Repairs.
  • At least 5 years’ experience following an indentured apprenticeship, ideally in a main dealer outlet.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Pass a Force Driving Assessment.
  • Prepared to undergo role‑specific training when required.

Applicants must meet the minimum checkable history criteria of 3 years and undergo recruitment vetting. Successful vetting is a pre‑requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
