We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital Media Investigator. In this role, you will support investigations that require specialist digital skills by attending crime scenes and providing evidence and intelligence to officers and staff from the retrieval of digital devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of digital opportunities for investigations, for example, CCTV, ANPR, Comms Data, Telematics, internet, networks, RF, WIFI, computers, telephones, storage devices, and 'internet of things.'
  • Advise Senior Investigating Officers on the most effective techniques to harness digital evidence and intelligence.
  • Support all levels of investigation to maximise digital opportunities and provide tactical advice to investigators.
  • Assist officers in the execution of search warrants and provide specialist advice and guidance on the correct methods of seizing and removing digital devices and other internet-enabled equipment.
  • Downloading of suspects and victim devices, providing evidential/intelligence package.
  • Review and grade indecent images of children.
  • Conduct open-source research at the appropriate level, ensuring evidential and intelligence product integrity.
  • Analyse a wide range of data and prepare expert reports to present the data in an admissible format, suitable for review by the investigation team.
  • Submit case files and present evidence in Court in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • Proactively identify opportunities available through existing and emerging technologies.
  • Keep up to date with legislation, policy and procedure, and liaise with colleagues in other Law Enforcement Agencies in order to share and learn from best practice.
  • Promote the use of Digital Media as a significant source of intelligence and investigation, ensuring that operational officers and staff understand and are aware of the benefits.
  • Manage and coordinate new and existing digital forensic methods that are subsequently brought under the accreditation of the digital forensic umbrella.

Skills And Experience

  • Self-motivated, organised, and able to prioritise at short notice.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and interest in digital media and investigation techniques.
  • Fully IT literate and able to demonstrate a knowledge of a wide range of software packages.
  • Ability to research and to adapt to new and emerging digital technologies.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
