Transactions Officer Barnsley, with opportunity for Hybrid working Salary £27,711 – £29,093 per annum (experience dependent) 8 Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover) from February 2025 Full Time 35 hours per week About us We have an exciting opportunity to join our small, friendly, and forward-thinking Transactions team in this well-respected, award-winning organisation managing an £11 billion pension fund. If you’re looking for a role involving variety and challenge, where you’ll be involved in processing transactions across the various areas of accounts payable invoices, accounts receivable invoicing and credit control, daily banking transactions, and payroll – ranging from our staff payroll for around 130 staff to our monthly pension payroll for over 60,000 pensioners, then this could be the job for you! About the role As a member of the Transactions team containing 3 officers and a senior practitioner, you’ll play a key part in delivering a high quality, efficient and effective service where accuracy and timeliness are absolute priorities. A big part of your daily work in this rewarding role will involve working on payroll for our 60,000+ pensioner members – from the monthly payroll closedown to daily payments processing of lump sum payments. In addition, you’ll process daily banking statements onto our finance system, work on our weekly supplier payments run, raise sales invoices, and assist with credit control. In this role, you’ll use various software systems every day – including our finance system (Advanced Financials), and our Pensions Administration system (Civica – UPM) – in addition to using a range of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Outlook and Teams in particular. You’ll engage with colleagues in other teams and with external suppliers and customers to provide relevant information and resolve queries. You’ll regularly be working to deadlines and will on occasion have opportunities to get involved in projects either within the team on areas such as system developments and improvement, or across the organisation for example in our Equality and Diversity group or Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee among others. This team is located within Finance & Performance where we are strongly committed to continuous improvement and striving for excellence in everything we do. What you\’ll be able to offer * Great communication skills and the ability to work with others to achieve objectives and provide excellent customer service. * Proven experience of working in a team in a busy office environment. * Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate inputting and reporting of data. * Confidence and skills in using a range of IT applications. * Previous finance and / or payroll experience would be an advantage. With such a varied role and responsibilities, we won’t expect you to be an expert in all these areas from day one; you’ll be provided with a well-planned induction and training programme to get you up to speed. So, we’ll need you to be highly motivated, keen to learn and with a genuine interest in this type of work.
