We are seeking an experienced Head of Transport Technology to join our Digital & Technology Services leadership team. This is a senior role at the intersection of transport and technology, playing a critical part in shaping how digital systems support the delivery of modern, integrated transport services across South Yorkshire, particularly as we transition to bus franchising and greater public control. Applications must include a cover letter detailing how you meet the criteria.

About the role

You will lead the strategic development and delivery of transport technology, ensuring systems, data and digital capabilities are aligned to support reliable, high-performing transport services. Working closely with transport and digital leaders, you will define and deliver a clear technology roadmap, ensuring platforms such as ticketing, passenger information and operational systems work together seamlessly. You will oversee the integration, performance and continuous improvement of these services across a complex, multi-supplier environment. The role also involves ensuring new systems are effectively designed, delivered and transitioned into live operation, with a focus on reliability, financial integrity and long-term sustainability. You will act as a key link between transport services and Digital & Technology Services, ensuring solutions are aligned to organisational priorities and standards.

About you

You are a strategic and experienced leader with a strong background in technology, transport systems or complex service environments. You are confident working across organisational boundaries, translating operational needs into effective technology solutions and leading delivery in complex, multi-stakeholder settings. You bring a strong understanding of how systems, data and suppliers come together to enable high-quality services. You are collaborative, commercially aware and focused on delivering reliable, customer‑focused outcomes, with the ability to shape strategy while ensuring effective day‑to‑day performance.

Benefits

  • Holiday entitlement: 28 to 36 days annual leave depending on length of service plus bank holidays (pro‑rata for part time colleagues)
  • Annual Leave Purchase Scheme – ability to purchase up to 15 days per year in addition to normal annual leave
  • Hybrid working – offices are a collaborative space; most roles offered on a hybrid basis; remote contracts not accommodated unless specified
  • Flexible Hours Scheme – flexibility and discretion over working hours with accrual of credit or debit of hours; Flexi‑Leave or banked annual leave available
  • Reward Gateway benefits – discounts, benefits, financial advice, wellbeing solutions and Cycle‑to‑Work schemes
