The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is seeking a proactive and motivated Facilities Officer to support the effective management and maintenance of our diverse estate. This is a key operational role responsible for ensuring that all SYMCA facilities remain safe, fully compliant, well-maintained and consistently operational to support our communities and transport networks.
You will work as a central member of the Assets and Facilities team, supporting reactive and planned maintenance, ensuring statutory compliance, engaging with contractors, and driving continuous improvement across the portfolio. About the role
This role provides essential support to the Facilities Manager in ensuring the SYMCA estate is safe, compliant, and efficiently managed. You will help maintain high standards across our buildings and assets, working closely with contractors, supporting compliance activities, and contributing to the development of systems and processes that enable effective facilities management. You will also play a part in delivering SYMCA’s environmental and sustainability objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting the delivery of Facilities Management across the estate in line with statutory requirements, best practice and SFG20 standards.
- Assisting with actions arising from insurance inspections to maintain safe and compliant environments.
- Coordinating contractors, including pre-start/on-site meetings, reviewing RAMS, and ensuring adherence to contractual and Health & Safety requirements.
- Contributing to the development and effective use of the CAFM system, maintenance contracts and facilities-related projects.
- Producing accurate reports to support good governance, procurement activity, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Supporting sustainability and Net Zero initiatives across the estate.
About you
The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to oversee and support facilities operations within a fast-paced environment.
Essential:
- Qualification in Facilities, Property or Asset Management (or related discipline).
- Experience in building maintenance.
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, CDM Regulations, and facilities compliance.
- Experience managing contractors and monitoring performance.
- Strong understanding of SFG20 and similar guidance documents.
- Experience in project management.
- Ability to build positive working relationships.
- GCSEs (A–C) in Maths and English or equivalent.
- Ability to undertake independent travel between sites as required.
Desirable:
- IOSH Managing Safely (within last 3 years) or equivalent.
- IWFM accreditation.
- Experience using CAFM systems.
