The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire. South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is currently in the process of reviewing its terms and conditions of employment including pay and grading. Key Responsibilities
- Support the management of a portfolio of projects and programmes, addressing issues and escalating concerns where necessary.
- Support the implementation of SYMCA’s programme management framework to ensure standardised delivery.
- Monitor programme progress, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support delivery agents in developing high-quality, deliverable business cases.
- Collaborate with assurance and reporting teams to ensure governance milestones are achieved.
- Contribute to programme reviews and reporting for senior stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of reports for senior managers, directors, and boards.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
You will have experience of working in a programme management environment along with experience in providing advice and guidance to senior offices. You will also be able to demonstrate key skills that enable the development of positive and successful relationships and connections as well as with the ability to balance competing demands and prioritise tasks effectively, excellent inter-personal skills, flexible and adaptable approach to work, with a proactive problem-solving attitude.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of programme planning and monitoring systems.
- Experience of programme development and/or delivery, ideally in areas such as Transport, Business Growth, or Housing.
- Proven ability to work across organisational boundaries and with external stakeholders.
- Skilled in communication, negotiation, and influencing at all levels.
- Knowledge of PRINCE2, MSP, or similar project management methodologies is desirable.
- Experience working in a political or public sector environment.
- Familiarity with the funding landscape of Combined Authorities.
