About the job
South Western Railway (SWR) is looking for a creative and detail-oriented Social Media and Digital Content Executive to support the delivery of engaging, high-quality digital content across our website and social media channels.
Reporting to the Social Media and Digital Content Manager, you\’ll help plan, create, publish and report on content that informs, inspires, and engages, while building meaningful connections with our audience. This role supports the wider digital and marketing strategy by helping to grow our brand presence, deepen customer engagement, and drive audience growth.
You\’ll work closely with the Social Media and Digital Content Manager and collaborate with teams across the commercial function – including campaigns, CRM, design, and communications – to ensure our content is aligned, on-brand, and delivering impact.
The content you create will play a vital role in engaging customers in a factual and compelling way, providing up-to-date information and inspiration to support customer journeys, build trust, and ultimately encourage repeat travel.
This is a key support role within a fast-paced and evolving environment, where responsiveness, creativity, and attention to detail are essential.
Your mainresponsibilities will be:
Social media
- Assist in the day-to-day drafting, scheduling, publishing, and monitoring of content across SWR\’s social media channels, ensuring content is accurate, on-brand, and aligned with the social media strategy and wider business priorities
- Support the consistent publishing of content across SWR\’s social media channels to help increase activity and maintain a regular posting rhythm
- Support the Social and Digital Content manager to deliver a content calendar that harnesses content from all areas of the business, communities, events, and third-party partnerships by working collaboratively with SWR teams
- Contribute ideas for newcontent opportunities, based on customer needs and industry trends, working with internal colleagues, external agencies, stakeholders and the regional communities
- Monitorcommunity engagement, respond to comments and queries, and escalate customer service issues appropriately
- Support theSocial and Digital Content Manager in analysing channel performance and preparing regular reports
- Keep up to datewith platform updates and trends, identifying opportunities to test new features
- Collaborate and workwith other departments, such as marketing, communications, campaigns, customer experience, CRM, and design
Digital Content
- Help manage and update website content in collaboration with other teams and external agencies, making sure key information is scheduled/up to date
- Support with content creation, including copywriting (including for website landing pages and blog posts), and basic visual assets using tools like Canva
- Uploadcontent to the CMS and publishing to the website
- Support theSocial and Digital Content manager with delivering two content audits every year, helping to make sure the functions across SWR are updating relevant information
- Supporting theDigital Marketing Specialist – Manager with SEO-driven content creation and optimisation
Content Performance
- Use analytics tools to monitor content performance across social and web, contributing to regular reports
- Support with extracting insights and recommendations to inform future content planning
- Apply SEO best practices to optimise website content for search engine visibility
Content Standards
- Ensure all social and digital content meets SWR\’s brand guidelines, including tone of voice, visual identity, and accessibility standards
- Proofread and edit content for clarity, consistency, and accuracy before publishing
- Follow internal processes and best practices for content creation, sign-off and publishing
- Support the maintenance of a consistent customer experience across all the digital touchpoints
- Help uphold high standards in content quality by flagging outdated or inaccurate content and suggesting improvements
- Contribute to the continual improvement of content processes by providing feedback and ideas
Additional responsibilities:
- Engage in continuous personal and professional development to ensure digital marketing skills are cutting edge/current
- Need to be flexible in approach and work proactively to deliver content uploads and amends, sometimes at short notice
- Ad-hoc requestsincluding but not limited to: providing ideas for campaigns, input and support for app content
You\’ll need to be:
Education
- Degree educated ideally in a related subject such as Marketing, journalism, or English, or equivalent qualification
- May have advanced diploma and/or technical qualification
Job Specific Knowledge &Skills
- 3 years\’ experience working in a similar digital content role
- Collaboration to create high-quality and high-performing digital content on various channels
- Demonstrable passion for digital content, storytelling and social media
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Team player who can build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Analysing performance metrics/data
- Familiarity with tools like Canva, Meta Business Suite, third-party Social Media Management tools, and CMS platforms (Sitecore preferred, but not essential).
- Understanding of online copywriting and how it impacts search engine optimisation
- Self-motivated, pro-active and team-orientated
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to deliver against tight deadlines
- Must be customer focused with an understanding of how content supports business goals
- Willingness to learn and develop new digital marketing skills
- Awareness of accessibility and best practice in digital content creation
- Interest in travel, transport, orcustomer service sector

Monday to Friday 0900 – 1700
