About the job
As a Painter Sprayer Team Leader you will be responsible for carrying out body repairs, preparing and painting vehicles using various Paint Systems as required. To lead the team of Painters as laid down by Heavy Maintenance Manager C62 and company Policies and Procedures.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- To lead a team of Painters, and carry out minor supervisory duties
- Overhaul and repair of units as allocated by the C6 Project Manager to relevant overhaul specifications
- To prepare vehicles for spraying, including masking out
- Carry out depot accident reporting procedures
- Mix paint
- Ensure all work is carried out to laid down specifications
- To carry out full body repairs
- Record all work carried out on prescribed documentation
- Rectifying damaged finished areas both internal and external
- Obtain materials from stores to enable job to be carried out
- Inform C6 Project Manager/Team leader immediately of any shortfalls/problems
- Advise C6 Project Manager of all work arising and any difficulties encountered
- Obtain, use, care for and return all specialist equipment
- Adhere to depot protection procedures
- Work to be undertaken to comply with ISO9001 Depot Quality Procedure
- Work to be undertaken in a safe manner/carry out personal protection checks as required
- Clean all equipment used
- Train and instruct staff as necessary
- Within the depot, control depot protection when required
- Liaise with the Team leader/Project Manager with respect to shunt moves, ensuring they are planned in a timely manner
Decision Making:
- Plan, organise, monitor and control all aspects of shift production to ensure all targets are met in terms of performance, availability and reliability of the train service
- Control the use of materials and levels of manning to ensure that whilst there is adequate of both to progress work
- The work is controlled to ensure effective performance and compliance to standards, giving technical guidance to staff as necessary
- The quality of workmanship is maintained at a high level and quality checks/competency assessments are carried out as required
- Assistance is given as necessary to engineering, technical and contracted support staff
- Booking/recording of work is effectively controlled and reported in required time scales using the systems and methods in place
- Ensure that staff work to appropriate safety regulations, safety instructions and depot operating instructions
Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure your personal safety and that of others at all times
- Comply with all safety systems and responsibilities at all times
- Develop a pro-active approach to safety issues
- Report any accidents, assaults or near miss occurrences in accordance with local reporting procedures
- Report any safety irregularities, faults or unusual occurrences in the prescribed manner
- Ensure all relevant PPE for tasks/activities is worn at all times and in accordance with local safety instructions/risk assessments
- Participate in all staff briefings to ensure you are informed of all relevant information
- Examine all safety procedures, notices, publications and instructions
Environmental Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
- Ensure staff dispose of waste in accordance with local instructions
- Ensure staff handle and dispose of bio-waste and sharps in accordance with local instructions
- Ensure all spillages of oil/chemical are cleaned up in accordance with local instructions
- Report any environmental incidents to SQ
