About the job

The holder of this post is responsible for cleaning and presentation of trains, ensuring all trains are clean and presented to the highest standard.

Ensuring cleaning duties are carried out in accordance with Train Presentation Standards and any local instructions.

You will use only approved equipment, chemicals and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH).

Your main responsibilities

  • Ensure your personal safety and that of others, including that of visitors and contractors at all times.
  • Assist traincrew and station staff in undertaking emergency procedures and evacuation procedures when required.
  • Provide a safe, courteous and helpful service at all times.
  • Comply with the Rules as defined in Network Rail Group Standard, South Western Railway Trains Employee Handbook, other regulations and Instructions, Group Standards and Legislation.
  • To assist customers as appropriate, especially those with special needs or at times of service disruption.
  • Clean and present trains for service in accordance with Train Presentation Standards.
  • Provide managers and supervisors with proactive information that delivers higher and improved train presentation standards.
  • Undertake cleaning of biological hazards.
  • Observe COSHH Regulations in place.
  • Complete paperwork as required, detailing and signing for all work carried out.
  • Dispose of waste, including bio-waste and sharps in accordance with local instructions.
  • Advise Manager of any problems or defects identified.
  • To undertake additional tasks as required by the local manager applicable to the role.
  • Wear uniform (including name badge) and safety clothing as supplied, ensuring that your standard of appearance complies with the company standard and is high at all times.

About the location

Bournemouth Depot is home to a number of South Western Railway\’s fleet. The engineering team at the depot are currently responsible for numerous projects such as the major component overhaul work on the 159 fleet, the Desiro repaint on the class 444\’s and 450\’s and the latest modification project on our exciting new Arterio fleet that is set to transform travel on our suburban routes by offering customers much faster and more reliable journeys!

Working pattern

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days

Permanent Days. 3 week rolling drop down shift pattern including weekends.

0730 – 1600.
