We are looking for a proactive and safety-focused Operations Safety Coordinator to join our Waste Water Services team. This is a critical role providing rescue cover, safety leadership and coordination for high-risk operational activities across the region, including work with our Tier 1 and Tier 2 partners. Reporting to the Maintenance Compliance and Safety Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety of all personnel involved in complex operational tasks, with the authority to stop work where conditions are unsafe.
What you'll be doing:
- Providing rescue cover and duty of care for complex and high-risk operational activities
- Leading the planning, coordination and supervision of high-risk tasks
- Writing and implementing Rescue Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements
- Acting as the lead safety presence on site, delivering safety briefings and site risk assessments
- Using technical and specialist rescue equipment for casualty stabilisation and emergency mitigation
- Coordinating safety team resources and ensuring appropriate competence levels for each task
- Maintaining, inspecting and ensuring statutory compliance of all safety equipment
- Organising regular training exercises and completing required external training
- Supporting confined space, breathing apparatus and work at height activities
- Developing and reviewing rescue tactics and identifying needs for specialist equipment
- Maintaining accurate records, documentation and progress reports
- Supporting wider Health & Safety requirements across Operations as required
What we're looking for:
- Essential
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
- Confined Space Trained (including rescue)
- Breathing Apparatus (BA) trained
- NEBOSH Certificate (or willingness to achieve)
- First Aid qualified (or willingness to achieve)
- Strong understanding of safety legislation and risk assessment
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
- Full UK driving licence
- Physically fit and able to meet role fitness requirements
- Desirable
- Knowledge of hazards within the water or wastewater industry
- Experience of water treatment processes and associated risks
- Operational knowledge of MEICA assets
- Background or personal interest in activities with transferrable health & safety elements
