We’re delighted to be launching our Mechanical and Electrical Apprentice programme for 2024. This role is to repair and maintain critical remote plant and process control systems, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of operational services. Carrying out planned maintenance activities and technical mechanical and/or electrical support for diagnosis and resolution of complex problems. This is an interesting role with many opportunities to develop both your technical knowledge and abilities.

We’ll provide you with a cross-functional role in the Mechanical and Electrical discipline. You’ll work towards gaining a recognised professional qualification as you learn and can look forward to a long-term career with one of the South West’s largest employers. We want to find ambitious, hard-working individuals with a strong desire to succeed. You will be paid a competitive Apprentice salary starting at £17,782. You'll also be eligible for our internal bonus scheme, as well as any company-wide pay increases that are offered during this time.

How does our Apprenticeship programme work?

  • The programme is 4 years:
  • Year 1 – College (Level 2): 4 x days at college, 1 x study day
  • Year 2 - Day Release to College (Level 3): 4 x days at work, 1 x day at college
  • Year 3 – Day Release to College (Level 3): 4 x days at work, 1 x day at college
  • Year 4 – Portfolio and Signoff: 5 x days at work

What you’ll be doing:

  • Completing a Level 3 Utilities Engineering Technician Apprenticeship via our training partners - a structured programme of training conducted within the state-of-the-art Mechanical and Electrical Engineering departmental workshops
  • Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment by working to our approved codes of practice
  • Become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of machine tools
  • Develop fitting and assembly skills
  • Electrical maintenance and fault-finding investigations
  • Training in the use of mechanical and electrical software packages
  • Carrying out other tasks and duties as directed that contribute to the required levels of performance and competence

What we’d like from you:

  • Ideally, 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) – but for the right person, this isn’t essential
