We are recruiting for a general Trainee Sheet Metal Worker / Masker for an established and trusted sheet metal and fabrication company based in Ferndown, Dorset. The company is known for their high standards and technical expertise, supplying precision metalwork to a wide range of industries including construction, marine, architectural, and engineering sectors.
The Masker is responsible for preparing sheet metal components for finishing processes such as powder coating, painting, or anodising. This includes accurately applying masking materials to specified areas of parts to protect them from coating or surface treatments.
Salary: Β£12.21 per hour with progression opportunities
Hours: Mon to Thursday 7.45 to 17.00 & Friday 7.45 to (hours per week). Earlier start and finish available if desired.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately read and interpret technical drawings and masking instructions
- Apply tapes, plugs, caps, and other masking materials to sheet metal parts as per job specifications
- Ensure all masked areas meet quality and tolerance requirements
- Prepare components for coating or finishing (cleaning, surface prep, etc.)
- Inspect masked parts to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Work closely with the coating/finishing team to ensure workflow efficiency
- Report any defects, discrepancies, or issues to the team leader or quality control
- Maintain a clean and organised workstation
Requirements:
- Good attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Ability to follow work instructions and engineering drawings
- Basic understanding of manufacturing or finishing processes
- Strong focus on quality and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable and punctual
Desirable:
- Previous experience in masking or similar production environment
- Familiarity with powder coating or paint shop environments
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes
