Join a skilled fleet maintenance team keeping essential public services moving. We are recruiting experienced Skilled Vehicle Technicians to join a busy municipal fleet workshop supporting a wide range of frontline council services across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified commercial vehicle technician who enjoys working on a varied fleet, from HGVs and refuse collection vehicles through to vans, tractors and specialist municipal equipment. You'll be part of a professional team committed to maintaining a safe, reliable and legally compliant fleet.

The Role

As a Skilled Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a diverse fleet of commercial and specialist vehicles to the highest standards. Your duties will include:

  • Carrying out inspections, examinations and safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently.
  • Performing planned preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
  • Repairing and maintaining HGVs, refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers, vans, trailers, tractors and other fleet vehicles.
  • Completing accurate electronic job records, defect reports and parts usage.
  • Working safely in accordance with Health & Safety procedures and risk assessments.
  • Ensuring all work complies with Operator Licence requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Supporting apprentices and assisting with on-the-job training where required.
  • Working collaboratively within the workshop team to maintain high service standards.

About You

We're looking for an experienced technician who takes pride in producing quality work and enjoys solving mechanical and electrical faults. You will ideally have:

  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent recognised vehicle technician qualification.
  • Previous experience working within a commercial vehicle workshop.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing HGVs, municipal vehicles or specialist fleet equipment.
  • An HGV licence (desirable).
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Good IT skills to complete electronic workshop records.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive, organised and flexible approach to work.
