Are you a qualified nurse RMN, RGN, RLDN, RPN, or are you an experienced nurse thinking about returning to the profession? South West London and St Georges (SWLSTG) Eating Disorder Inpatient services are offering an exciting opportunity! Avalon ward is an 18-bed unit for adults suffering with moderate to severe eating disorders, often at a very low weight and with a high level of co‑morbidity with conditions. We are a recovery focused team, and our aim is to discharge our patients safely.

We are a large, hard‑working team made up of nurses, nursing associates, healthcare assistants, psychiatrists, dietitians, occupational therapists, social workers, activity coordinators and psychologists. Avalon ward has recently moved into a brand-new state‑of‑the‑art building which was co‑designed with service users.

Career Progression & Development Opportunities

We are passionate about nurse development and many of our band 5 staff go on to band 6 positions within the team. We offer bespoke eating disorder training including NG training and phlebotomy training. We actively encourage CPD and support nurses to advance their skills, becoming Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Practice Development Nurses and providing training opportunities in psychological therapy.

Responsibilities

  • As a Registered Nurse you provide direct personal care to patients, without direct supervision, and coordinate the care given by colleagues.
  • Lead delivery of comprehensive service user assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of person‑centered care in a collaborative way.
  • Co‑ordinate a first‑class service that includes assessment and monitoring of physical health, maintaining service users’ rights, supervising junior staff and students, working collaboratively with the Multi‑Disciplinary Team and maintaining a safe and therapeutic working environment and accurate records.
  • Ensure fundamentals of care are met – nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support.
  • Co‑ordinate and evaluate collaborative patient‑centred care; gather feedback and improve plans with the MDT.
  • Provide accurate information about care in an accessible format to patients and their relatives/carers.
  • Liaise and work positively with members of the multi‑disciplinary team and partner organisations.
  • Administer and monitor the side‑effects of medication; monitor service user compliance.

Band 5 nursing roles are only open to staff with a nursing registration, obtained as a result of completing a qualification recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Springfield University Hospital, Tooting – our largest, 19‑ward site is in Springfield Village, created following a £150m investment into two new world‑class mental health facilities. A 32‑acre public park, shops and cafés are now opening. Springfield is close to shops, cafés, Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.
