An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Positive Behaviour Specialist (PBS) to join NDT. The role offers a valuable opportunity for people with an interest in neurodevelopmental presentations, such as Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD. Supervised by a senior PBS, the post is highly suitable for candidates who aspire to learn more and/or specialise in neurodevelopmental conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Work primarily within the Needs Based, under NDT team, to support with the pre/post diagnosis support.
  • Offer workshops/group sessions.
  • Offer 1:1 sessions to parents/carers of children and young people on the ND pathway before or after the ND assessment.
  • Prepare resources related with the interventions delivered for behaviour, to be shared with parents/carers and other members of the team.
  • Be part of the MDT discussion for cases and support on recommendations after diagnosis.
  • Support screening and reviewing clinical information related to young people presenting with Neurodevelopmental (ND) difficulties, and making onward referrals for assessments within NDT or signposting to other services as required.
  • Be involved in a variety of tasks in the NDT, including liaising with young people/families/multi-agency professionals.
  • Work closely with the ND team and liaise with other colleagues in local SPAs and other CAMHS teams if needed.
  • Have an agreed job plan with specified activity and throughput levels.
  • Co-ordinate care for those children, young people and families on their caseload.
  • Manage risk within team, Directorate and Trust structures.
  • Work to relevant professional and ethical guidelines, and within the framework of Directorate and Trust policies and procedures.
  • Support and enhance the care of children and young people within the service.
  • Provide a highly specialist service to children and young people with an autistic spectrum disorder and/or ADHD who present with challenging behaviour, toileting, feeding and/or sleeping concerns and/or mental health difficulties, and to their families across all sectors of care.
  • Contribute to the Duty and system.
  • Provide assessment and interventions within NDT – Needs Based drawing upon Applied Behaviour Analysis and Positive Behaviour Support experience in conjunction with colleagues as appropriate.
  • Function as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary NDT team, and work as an autonomous NDT – Needs Based clinician providing specialist, holistic and generic assessment and intervention, when appropriate, with CYP and families.
  • Work independently according to a plan agreed within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide and deliver clinical supervision and line management to other NDT colleagues as appropriate.
  • Assist in clinically related administration, conduct audits and research projects, collect and analyse service data, develop databases, and participate in teaching and project work.
  • Actively contribute to the development of the service.
