South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) provides mental health services in the London boroughs. The Trust is offering an opportunity to join the Internship Programme with the Wellbeing service at Merton Uplift, a Primary Care Mental Health service. The Wellbeing Service undertakes targeted work to reach people who may benefit from talking therapies but may not come forward for help, including carers, people from Black, Asian or Minority ethnic groups, older adults, and young men.

Interns will work with Wellbeing Practitioners to support individuals and communities to improve access to psychological therapies through delivery of group work, collaborative community development and signposting in community and primary care settings. Interns may also have the opportunity to work with clinical teams if considering a career in psychology or other health professions.

Internship Programme

Through the internship programme the Trust offers an opportunity to volunteer in real work settings, gain valuable experience that can support further training or employment, and participate in personal and professional development through Trust courses and local organisations.

  • Develop and deliver wellbeing workshops to improve access to psychological therapies.
  • Promote the wide range of activities that the Wellbeing Team offers via Social Media and develop positive connections with community groups.

  • Contribute to evaluation, research and education as appropriate (e.g., literature searches, preparing group materials, posters and other presentations).
  • Shadow protocol-based psychological assessments of clients, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients and others involved in the client’s care, with opportunities to conduct these.
