We are seeking a dedicated and professional Head Porter to join our team at South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust. You will play a key role in delivering a high‑quality porting service for our patients and staff across all sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the portering team as Operational Lead, ensuring delivery of the highest standard of Portering Service to patients, staff and visitors.
  • Supervise shifts and compile scheduled and portering‑requested duties daily to produce monthly performance reports.
  • Maintain accurate records, quality audits, training records and equipment audits; manage staff records and operational changes.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained, taxed, MOTed and serviced; report incidents or accidents to the insurance company.
  • Manage waste transfer – clinical, domestic and recycling – from all areas to external waste compounds.
  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, security, Trust policies and procedures, including infection control.
  • Allocate duties and shifts using the roster system, ensuring effective Portering cover within allocated budgets, and provide payroll information.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and managers within the wider Estates and Facilities team.
  • Support recruitment and selection of staff, manage sickness absence and disciplinary actions in line with HR policies.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and procedure folders to enable relief staff to perform portering, post and pharmacy delivery duties.
