An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Assistant Psychologists to join Kingston & Richmond Tier 2 CAMHS/Emotional Health Service. The role offers a valuable opportunity for people with a strong first degree in psychology, plus relevant experience, to further progress their career. Supervised by clinical psychologists, the post is highly suitable for candidates who aspire to future training in clinical psychology and other psychological therapy professions.

The Emotional Health Service (EHS) is a dynamic and progressive multidisciplinary Tier 2 CAMHS team. The teams are based in Richmond (Twickenham base) and Kingston (Chessington base) and work closely with our colleagues in Early Help and Social Care. There are staff working in specialist posts in Safeguarding, Looked After Children and deliver a local Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service. We have a strong sense of team and work together to support children and young people’s emotional wellbeing. Tier 2 CAMHS in Kingston and Richmond will be transferring from Achieving For Children (AFC) to South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust on 1st November 2025, when the post holder will move locations to sit within Tier 2 services within the Trust.

We are looking for two highly skilled and committed Assistant Psychologists to join the Tier 2 Kingston and Richmond CAMHS teams.

Main duties of the job

• Support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients in the Community CAMHS Directorate across all sectors of care,
• Provide psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist,
• Work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures,
• Assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection and analysis of data, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

About our location

The Kingston & Richmond CAMHS SPA is currently based at Woodroffe House, Tolworth Hospital. There are also options for flexible working in our other bases including The Guildhall in Kingston Town Centre (Achieving for Children’s hub), Richmond CAMHS (currently based in Teddington, but future permanent base at Richmond Royal Hospital) and some opportunities for home working.

Clinical

Under appropriate supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist.

1. To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
2. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a HCPC registered practitioner psychologist. To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.
3. To work with other staff to assess inpatients, community patients, day patients or residents and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
4. To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
5. To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

Teaching, Training and Supervision

1. In common with all Psychology and Psychotherapies staff to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
2. To gain wider experience (up to 2 sessions per whole time equivalent) of professional psychology within the NHS over and above that provided within the principal service area where the post-holder is employed.
3. To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
4. To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care.

Management, Recruitment and Service Development

1. To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.
2. To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.

Research and Service Evaluation

1. To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
2. To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
3. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence based practice in individual work and work with other team members.

Other

1. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder’s professional and team/operational manager(s).
2. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
3. To prepare test materials and visual aids as required.
4. To undertake specific administrative duties as required.
