South East London Mind has been delivering a young person’s counselling service to students at Southwark College for several years. As a College Counsellor, you’ll provide an age‑appropriate counselling service that allows the students to explore their mental health and wellbeing, along with the socioeconomic factors that impact this. You’ll manage a caseload of students, triage new clients, coordinate the waiting list and capture data and outcome measures on a CRM database.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a professionally recognised diploma in Counselling or Psychotherapy who has experience of providing counselling to young people aged 14 upwards. An ability to work independently but collaboratively, to be proactive and show initiative is essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Offer age‑appropriate counselling sessions, including assessments and risk assessments, and provide clients with information about, and signposting to, other services where appropriate.
  • Work with teachers and pastoral staff to ensure that the students are triaged and the relevant level of care and support is offered.
  • Work closely with the school to raise and report any safeguarding concerns in accordance with the schools and SEL Mind Safeguarding Policies.
  • Liaise where appropriate with SEL Mind staff, school/college staff or agencies including local statutory and voluntary sector professionals and organisations.
  • Regularly communicate with other SEL Mind college counsellors and college safeguarding team to keep abreast of key themes, issues and needs across the service and collaborate to address these.
  • Attend regular clinical supervision, group clinical supervision, and line management to ensure effective therapeutic interventions.

Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an Enhanced Level Disclosure and Barring Service check.
