Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide maternity leave cover for Macmillan Dietetic post at George Eliot Hospital until the end of October 2026.

The post provides an opportunity for an experienced dietitian to provide specialist dietetic care to oncology patients and demonstrate their leadership skills developing the service further, gathering data, measuring measuring outcomes and creating reports, analysing training needs assessments and delivering training.

As well as joining the dietetic team, you would also become an integral part of the Cancer Multidisciplinary teams at George Eliot Hospital. The role involves regular contribution to MDT clinics, MDT meetings, dietetic clinics, patient group sessions, HCP training and participation in public health events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead dietitian for designated speciality and work as an autonomous practitioner to advise on the dietary management of patients on a highly specialist caseload.
  • Provide specialist dietetic care to oncology patients and contribute to service development by gathering data, measuring outcomes, creating reports and analysing training needs assessments and delivering training.
  • Join the Dietetic team and be an integral part of the Cancer Multidisciplinary Teams at George Eliot Hospital, with regular contributions to MDT clinics and meetings, dietetic clinics, patient group sessions, HCP training and public health events.
  • Liaise with dietetic colleagues and other members of multidisciplinary teams (e.g., medical, nursing, catering and other health & social care professionals) as necessary.
  • Act as a specialist advisor and educator to other healthcare professionals within the designated speciality.
  • Promote the ethos of self-management and prevention to patients, staff and carers to prevent nutritional problems, medical conditions and complications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Ideally experienced in oncology, but consideration will be given to candidates who have significant nutrition support experience.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to lead on service development and training.
