South Wales Police Special Constable (Volunteer Police Officer) Campaign October 2025

3 weeks ago Be among the first 25 applicants

Are you interested in applying to become a Special Constable (Volunteer Police Officer)?

Special Constables are volunteers who have the same powers, same equipment, same uniform, and attend the same calls as regular Police Constables. As a Special Constable you will provide a vital link between the regular force and your local communities. You will play a crucial role in helping to deliver the policing priorities for South Wales. You will be valued, and it will be a rewarding, challenging and enjoyable experience.

Expectations

You will be expected to commit to a minimum of 16 hours service a month and your appointment will be subject to a 2-year probationary period during which time you must complete all elements of your training and be certified as independent patrol.

Further Information

South Wales Police are holding a Special Constable Information Session on Monday 27th October 2025 at 18:00 online via Microsoft Teams. Please click on the below link to register your interest to attend this event by 12 noon on 24th October 2025:

Application

Think you’ve got what it takes? Here’s what else you need to know.

  • The applications process will go live at 9am on 13th October 2025 and close at 12 noon on 3rd November 2025
  • You will be invited to complete the National Sift; this needs to be completed within 7 days of your invitation or by the closing time/date of the advert, whichever is soonest.
  • Please note online tests are not compatible with handheld devices (e.g., tablet or mobile phone) and must be completed on a desktop/laptop computer. It is advisable to register and complete the application process on the same device to avoid compatibility issues.
  • If you have any technical issues whilst completing the tests, the decision to reset the test will be at the discretion of South Wales Police. Please note that we can only reset the test once.
  • Ensure you follow the instructions to complete and submit the online application and relevant certificates prior to the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants requiring reasonable adjustments/accommodation for the online test or during the Special Constable interviews must email HR-Recruitment@south-wales.police.uk.

Following the completion of the online tests, you will be notified if you have passed or failed. If you pass you will be invited to select an interview date and time.

Please be mindful that if you fail the National sift online test, you are ineligible to resit it again within 3 months for any other uniformed recruitment.

South Wales Police reserves the right to change the dates of tests or intakes as required and restrict candidate numbers attending the interviews due to organisational need.

As an equal opportunities’ employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as black and minority ethnic (B.A.M.E) candidates are currently underrepresented within the Force, we would particularly welcome applications from B.A.M.E applicants. If you would like to discuss further the opportunities, support offered and the forthcoming recruitment campaign, please contact our Positive Action Team on positiveaction@south-wales.police.uk

If you can’t find the answers you are looking for, please call 01656 869225 or e-mail HR-recruitment@south-wales.police.uk.
