Salaried General Practitioner in Jarrow

South Tyneside Health Collaboration manages two general practices, one in the beautiful coastal village of Whitburn and another, a developing training practice in central Jarrow, with a combined list size circa 8,500. We host 3 PCNs within South Tyneside as well as deliver several primary care services such as mental health, spirometry, Covid Vaccinations, Admiral Nursing service and Health and Wellbeing outreach.

Due to the expansion of patient services, we are looking for a salaried GP to work 4-8 sessions flexibly across the organisation. The successful candidate will be predominantly based within our practices, with the potential to develop their career into other areas within STHC. We can be flexible with number of sessions and working days for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job:

• Support STHC in providing all services outlined in the GMS contract, including work outside of core hours (Enhanced Access).
• Support and input into areas of clinical governance, good practice, quality outcomes framework, enhanced services, practice audit, referral review and any other improvement plans as determined by the STHC Clinical director.
• Utilise and develop skills for the improvement of services to patients, such as child health surveillance, family planning training or any other skills that would be required for services STHC wishes to sign up to.
• Maintain and keep good standards of computerised clinical records in line with GMC guidance.
• Full involvement in STHC training and ongoing maintenance of our status as a paperless practice.
• Work as duty doctor and deal with other daily enquiries.
• Involvement in the monthly care home and practice MDT meetings.
• Complete all work by the end of the working day, for example prescriptions, tasks, lab links and referrals.
• Maintain good standards of documentation using EMIS.

Job responsibilities:

• Provide a full range of general medical services as contained within the National Health Services (Primary Care) Act 1997, including domiciliary visits as deemed appropriate.
• Support STHC in providing all services outlined in the GMS contract, including work outside of core hours (Enhanced Access).
• Support and input into the aims of the practice in areas of clinical governance, good practice, quality outcomes framework, enhanced services, practice audit, referral review and any other improvement plans as determined by STHC Clinical Lead.
• Utilise and develop skills for the improvement of services to patients.
• Maintain good standards of computerised clinical records in line with GMC guidance.
• Work as duty doctor and deal with other daily enquiries.
• Involvement in the monthly care home and practice MDT meetings.
• Complete all work by the end of the working day.
• Contribute to the operational and strategic leadership of the practices within STHC.
• Lead in an area(s) of clinical performance and/or service delivery.

1. Review of Job Plan: Your role will be reviewed after 3, 6 and 9 months of employment, and will be developed collaboratively between the STHC and yourself. After this time it will be subject to annual review, or when there are any significant changes to the work pattern suggested by either party.

2. Scheduling in the Job Plan: You are contracted to provide an agreed number of sessions per week, as per your contract, but you will be expected to be flexible, particularly during holiday periods.

3. Computerised records: You will be expected to use EMIS bespoke software and follow appropriate processes for computerised record keeping.

4. Primary care team meetings: Formal or informal, essential to the delivery of team-based care are held from time to time at the surgery.

5. Personal Development: STHC is committed to the highest standards of evidence-based medicine and supporting colleagues in achieving this.

6. Additional sessions: STHC may agree with a practitioner to undertake work which is not specified in his or her Job Plan by way of additional nominal sessions or fractions thereof.

Person Specification:

• Qualified GP.
