An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Pension Officer across various teams in the Pensions Service, administering the Tyne and Wear Pension Fund and Teesside Pension Fund. Successful candidates will be appointed to the roles best aligned with their skills and experience; however, flexibility to support other areas of the business as needed is essential.

The Tyne and Wear Pension Fund is a regional pension fund administering the Local Government Pension Scheme. It is the fourth largest Local Government Pension Fund in England and Wales and is currently valued at Β£14.7 billion. The Fund has over 195,000 members and around 200 active employers, including the five Councils within the Tyne and Wear County area and Northumberland County Council. Tyne and Wear Pension Fund also provides administration services to Teesside Pension Fund, which serves 90,000 members and over 200 active employers.

Further details on the role of each of the teams are as follows:

  • Member Services Team
    • Assist with the delivery of scheme member education communications and pensioner payroll services;
    • Assist with the front line service delivery including answering calls on the pensions helpline and online enquiries;
    • Deal with Payroll processing;
    • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Employer Services Team
    • Be part of a team which has overall responsibility for strategic development and delivery of scheme employer education, communication and liaison;
    • Be the main day to day contact for scheme employers, offering support and advice;
    • Ensure efficient receipt and accuracy of member data;
    • Assist with monitoring and compliance against statutory requirements, performance indicators and service standards.
  • Operations Team
    • Assist in ensuring the maintenance of accurate and appropriate records for members of the Pensions Scheme and administer transfer values to and from other pension providers;
    • Calculate member and dependant pension benefits, lump sums, process for payment, check where required and record all sums.
  • Systems Team
    • Assist in the provision of strategic and technical support to the Pensions Office;
    • Ensure the Pensions Office IT systems make the largest possible contribution to the Pensions Service and offer effective and efficient business solutions;
    • Ensure the Pensions Office systems comply with legal requirements;
    • Ensure data is held correctly and can be reported on for performance and management information.
  • Development Team
    • Assist to deliver new developments and initiatives across the Service;
    • Play a role in service transformation through innovation, automation and digitisation;
    • Assist with development of effective reporting and management information;
    • Identify trends and opportunities to improve performance, drive forward service delivery and customer care.
