South Tyneside Council’s Housing Services are seeking an exceptional strategic leader to take on the role of Head of Repairs and Maintenance. This pivotal position is responsible for ensuring our homes are safe, well maintained and meet the expectations of our tenants and residents.
Responsibilities
- Shape and direct the Council’s approach to high‑quality, responsive, value‑for‑money repairs, maintenance and investment services across the housing portfolio.
- Oversee key operational areas including Responsive Repairs, Disrepair and Improvement, Empty Homes, Gas and Special Services (asbestos and water management).
- Lead the Repairs and Maintenance Team to deliver high‑quality services, ensuring tenants remain safe while driving continual improvement, robust oversight and consistent performance.
- Manage significant budgets and lead a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Work closely with elected members, senior officers, contractors and tenants to deliver excellent outcomes and ensure compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Navigate complex regulatory landscapes while delivering strong operational outcomes.
Qualifications
- Ambitious and experienced housing professional with a proven recent track record of leading repairs and maintenance services within a local authority, housing association or large social housing organisation.
- Demonstrated vision, innovation and the ability to drive strategic change.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience managing significant budgets and multi‑disciplinary teams.
