Teaching Fellow (Paediatrics)

The closing date is 10 October 2025. This post is fixed term until 31.05.2026.

Undergraduate Medical Education requires committed and interested staff to enable students to make the most of the teaching opportunities available. We have 1 post for a motivated paediatric teacher to join the team. This post will be to work with the Newcastle University teaching team.

The role will involve teaching alongside the current designated specialty teams while taking a lead in some of the more complex planning and delivery of key concepts of medical education.

This post offers the opportunity to gain broad experience within the undergraduate teaching team. There are no existing designated clinical sessions as the post is 100% teaching.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include planning, delivery and evaluation of the Newcastle University undergraduate curriculum for medical students.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Foundation Programme or equivalent OR completion of F2 by the start of post
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • University approved teaching qualification/Certificate in Medical Education

Experience

  • Experience of working as a doctor in the NHS
  • Previous experience of delivery and support of undergraduate teaching
  • Understanding of clinical governance and a readiness to accept and acknowledge the responsibilities it implies
  • Ability to use an evidence base and clinical audit to support decision making
  • Post Foundation Programme clinical experience
  • Demonstrates ability to use IT to support education delivery
  • Overview knowledge of the undergraduate curriculum from Newcastle University
  • Can provide evidence of effective communication skills
  • Can provide evidence of ability to organise and prioritise complex demands
  • Can evidence working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Can evidence reflective practice
  • Demonstrates flexibility to respond to changing service needs
  • Demonstrates experience of using simulation equipment in the delivery of training

Clinical Specialty Skills

  • Wide range of experience in medicine with some paediatric clinical experience
  • Competent in management of routine and emergency paediatric patients.
