Weare looking to recruit enthusiastic, committed and motivated Health CareAssistants with excellent communication and leadership skills to join our endoscopyteam.

We have posts on both South Tyneside and SunderlandRoyal endoscopy unit, you will have a base site on appointment, however crosssite working will be an expectation.Shift patterns are Monday to Friday with some evening and weekend shiftsas required, you will also take part in an out of hours on call.

This is a band 2 post increasing to band 3 onsuccessful completion of the Care Certificate and consolidated learning period.

Main duties of the job

You will have the ability towork within a multi-professional team and assist in ensuring the delivery ofthe highest standards of care. You will contribute towards developments innursing within the service. You will be joining a highly skilled and committedteam who will give their full support in your training and development.

The successful candidates will be expected todevelop their knowledge and skills to deliver an enhanced HCA role.

You will support the delivery of care to patientsbefore, during and after endoscopic procedures, acting as an assistant to theRegistered nurse who is co-ordinating the care of patients and participate inthe efficient functioning of the decontamination area.

The enhanced clinical element of the role is toassist the Registered Nurse, acting as the second Assistant during theendoscopic procedure.

  • To assist the registered practitioner in providing high quality compassionate care and assistance to patients, relatives, and their carers, appropriate to their needs.
  • Responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the registered practitioner who has overall accountability for delegating care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 2 or equivalent.
  • IT / keyboard and computer Skills.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety requirements in a patient environment.
  • General understanding of confidentiality requirements in a health care setting.
  • Willing to work towards completion of a Care certificate following commencing in post.
  • Competent in decontamination of endoscopes and/or working in Endoscopy Treatment room.
  • Working towards or gained relevant Level 3 qualification for example NVQ 3 and or/Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
  • Care certificate.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Able to understand instructions and carry out duties in accordance with them.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to prioritise tasks.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a care setting. Understanding of the type of work required in an Endoscopy Unit.
  • Experience of working in an endoscopy, theatre or diagnostic services environment.
