Overview
Term Time Only (36 hours per week over 40 weeks per year)
Do you have a passion for working with young people in a vibrant, creative environment?
We are looking for an experienced youth work professional who is able to work at our satellite service autonomously in close liaison with the enrichment team/wider Student Services and curriculum colleagues based both at the CIC and main Kingston hall road sites.
This role will be based at the Creative Industries Centre. The Creative Industries Centre provides a range of courses such as art and design, media, fashion, dance, music and games design with students on 16-19 study programmes, Access diplomas, Apprenticeships and Higher Education courses.
Kingston College is seeking a Student Community Officer to support Curriculum, Student Services and Security Teams in the positive engagement of students, particularly those considered at risk or hard to reach.
Responsibilities
- Provide a positive ethos within the Creative Industries Campus of the College community, encompassing enrichment and the wider holistic Student Services on offer.
- Provide an engaging, welcoming onsite presence during the College Day, signposting enrichment and promoting positive attitudes, inclusivity and behaviour and provide an early intervention support strategy for identified students at risk.
- Work autonomously in liaison with relevant teams and colleagues across CIC and Kingston hall road sites to support student engagement and welfare.
Qualifications
- Hold a Level 3 qualification or above in a relevant discipline (for example, youth work, youth justice, social care).
- Experience of outreach/detached youth work or similar; experience of working with young people in a school or College setting and understanding issues affecting attendance and behavioural standards as set out in Group Policy.
- Ability to establish positive and effective relationships with young people while maintaining appropriate personal boundaries; knowledge and experience of managing challenging behaviour, behaviour management techniques and interventions (including de-escalation, negotiation, restorative approaches/conflict resolution).
- Organised with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary Service and College team; experience of IT and online data administration systems related to student records and the ability to produce accurate, timely written reports and statements.
