The Role

As a Network Controller with South Staffs Water, you will oversee the safe and efficient running of the water supply system using SCADA, data loggers, and visualisation tools. The role ensures system stability, protects water quality, and supports operational teams and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor real‑time system data, respond to alarms, and manage water movement to maintain reservoir levels and prevent water quality issues.
  • Escalate abnormalities and support outages and authorised operations in line with company procedures.
  • Coordinate out‑of‑hours callouts for operational staff and duty officers.
  • Maintain customer supplies through collaboration with the call centre and support customer notifications via ECHO and company websites.
  • Contribute to achieving key ODIs, including CMEX, Interruptions to Supply, and Water Quality.
  • Monitor and respond to security alarms, notifying relevant personnel and logging issues with business partners.
  • Escalate incidents in accordance with Emergency Procedures.
  • Raise and assign work orders out of hours and report nuisance alarms or system issues to relevant teams.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong IT literacy and confidence using digital monitoring systems.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and remain composed under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA and data logging systems (desirable).
  • Licence to Operate – Bronze Level (desirable).
  • Customer‑focused approach with a commitment to protecting service and water quality.
  • Proactive, reliable, and decisive when responding to operational issues.
  • Strong teamwork ethic and willingness to support continuous improvement.
