South Staffs Water is looking for a practical, people‑focused Health & Safety Business Partner to help shape how safety is delivered across our operational teams. The Role
As a Health & Safety Business Partner with South Staffs Water, you will play a central role in strengthening safety culture across our operational sites. Based in Walsall or Cambridge, you will work closely with the Operational Delivery team to turn Group H&S Standards into practical, accessible procedures that protect our people and support safe, efficient operations. This is a hands‑on, relationship‑driven role that blends technical expertise with cultural influence.
You Will
- Translate Group H&S Standards into clear, practical procedures, guidance and templates tailored for South Staffs Water operational environment.
- Partner with middle managers and supervisors to embed Critical Risks into Risk Assessments and ensure assessments reflect real work-as-done.
- Develop and support the use of high‑quality Risk Assessments that act as actionable blueprints for safe working.
- Drive improvements in incident reporting, ensuring reports lead to meaningful learning and preventative action.
- Identify health hazards and support the implementation of appropriate health surveillance programmes.
- Contribute to internal audits and inspections, including those involving contractors and suppliers.
- Champion near‑miss and hazard reporting and facilitate the EcoOnline accident‑incident reporting platform for data capture and trend analysis.
- Deliver against KPIs relating to the development of H&S procedures and the support provided to managers on risk assessments.
- Act as a trusted partner to the Operational Delivery team, covering Water Production and Distribution activities.
What You’ll Need
- NEBOSH General Certificate (essential).
- Membership of IOSH or similar professional body (desirable).
- Experience with ISO 45001 (desirable).
- Experience in the water industry is beneficial, though cross‑sector experience that brings fresh thinking is equally valued.
- Strong understanding of operational risk, safety systems and cultural change.
- A collaborative, practical and empathetic approach, with the ability to influence behaviours and build credibility across operational teams.
- A grounded, hands‑on mindset and a commitment to making health and safety meaningful and relevant.
