What you’ll be getting up to

  • Delivering high-quality legal services across two councils, with a focus on commercial contracts and procurement
  • Advising officers and members on competitive processes and/or mitigating procurement risk
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements of all types (including agreements for services, funding agreements, grant agreements, variation, novation, and concessions)
  • Supporting corporate projects including major regeneration and development projects
  • Preparing and advising on reports for Cabinet, Committees, and senior officers
  • Promoting legal compliance and good governance in contract and procurement matters including in relation to the Council’s Contract Procedure Rules and Public Procurement legislation
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure the effective operation of Legal Services

Who we’re looking for

  • A qualified legal professional (LPC, ILEX or equivalent) with a degree
  • Substantial experience in contracts and procurement law, particularly IT, construction or commercial contracts
  • Additional experience in litigation or planning law is desirable
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • A proactive team player who takes initiative and responsibility
