We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our welcoming team. You will provide a full range of primary care nursing services, focusing on child immunisations, cervical screening, and wound care. The role offers genuine autonomy and flexibility, with the support of approachable GPs and an experienced clinical and administrative team. Main duties of the job:
- Deliver childhood and adult immunisations
- Undertake cervical cytology (smears)
- Provide wound care and dressings
- Manage and review long-term conditions (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension)
- Offer contraceptive and sexual health advice
- Provide travel health advice and vaccinations
- Contribute to QOF targets, audits, and practice improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold the highest standards of infection control and patient safety

Job responsibilities:
- Support the practice in achieving quality indicators and targets of the GMS contract and any relevant National Service Frameworks.
- Undertake opportunistic screening when clinically required.
- Perform venepuncture and electrocardiography.
- Undertake wound care/management/dressing techniques.
- Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness.
- Administer adult and paediatric injections under an individualised prescription or Patient Group Direction, ensuring safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs.
- Provide advice on lifestyle issues, assist and support patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately.
- Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluids spillages and report and treat sharps injuries.
- Undertake first aid and management of emergencies, e.g., burns, haemorrhage, hypo/hyperglycaemic emergencies/asthma attacks.
- Undertake annual training and demonstrate competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques.
- Abide by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice and record and maintain periodic professional registration with RCN & NMC.
- Recognise the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours, suicidal tendencies and be aware of local referral procedures.
- Promote your own continuing professional development.
- Participate in an annual appraisal.
- Complete all mandatory training modules as specified by the Practice.
- Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.
- Effectively manage own time, workload, and resources.
Person Specification:
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Experience in primary care or community nursing
- Competent in using clinical IT systems (ideally EMIS Web)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently while being a positive, supportive team member
- Commitment to patient-centred care and ongoing professional development
- IT skills and knowledge of EMIS
- Training in cervical cytology and immunisations
- Experience in travel health
