Overview
South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable and passionate ecological professional to join the Planning Service's Ecology Team.
The role involves working alongside a multi-disciplinary team including Arborists, Heritage Officers, Landscape Architects and Urban Designers, providing ecological advice to development management officers, planning applicants, consultants and other teams across the councils, and reviewing incoming planning applications.
Responsibilities
- Ensure planning decisions comply with statutory responsibilities related to the protection of designated sites, habitats and species; provide statutory biodiversity net gain; and deliver Local Plan biodiversity policy requirements.
- Represent the councils and give evidence at planning appeals, court proceedings and public examinations as necessary.
- Represent the councils on ecology issues to external bodies, partnerships and steering groups, and deliver training and general advice.
- Provide strategic ecological advice to planning policy teams, assist with policy development, and produce expert technical evidence/reports.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in ecology or related discipline, or equivalent level of experience.
- A minimum of three years professional experience.
- Full driving licence and ability to travel independently.
