The Waste Operations Team is responsible for delivering an efficient and effective waste collection service for residents and businesses across the district. We are offering a fantastic opportunity for someone who values the environment, enjoys driving, and takes pride in leading a small team to support the delivery of this vital service. This role primarily involves driving a refuse collection / food waste vehicle and operating across multiple waste streams. You will supervise the crew, ensure safety and best practice, and maintain compliance with HGV 'O' licence requirements. Key Responsibilities Collecting multiple waste streams in line with Council methods and arrangements. Working to prescribed health and safety requirements, ensuring no impact on the public while completing the round. Ensuring transport management requirements are met at all times. Supervising the designated crew throughout the round. Completing necessary paperwork, such as attention cards and on-board weighing administration. Collecting missed waste and clearing illegally tipped refuse. Completing vehicle checks before and after each shift and promptly reporting faults. Working as part of the team to meet service standards, targets, and performance indicators, with a focus on customer needs and continuous improvement.You will need Hold a full Cat C HGV licence and a current CPC licence (please state DVLA licence categories and CPC validity on your application). Ideally demonstrable experience of regular HGV driving, preferably in a similar role. Ability to undertake repetitive manual lifting. Able to follow procedures, complete tasks, and accept direction. Demonstrate a working knowledge of health and safety operational requirements. Lead by example and supervise a crew throughout the shift. Assess local road conditions to minimise traffic disruption.The role will require some flexibility in terms of working early mornings/late afternoons and some weekends where required, particularly following a bank holiday of a period of inclement weather for example. You will be operating in a safety critical role where your safety is paramount, the Council has a zero-tolerance policy to taking illegal substances.
