Maudsley Health Head of Education and Training, Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, Dubai Equivalent of Band C South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is working with MACANI, a highly respected Abu Dhabi based organisation with a mission to develop and extend high quality mental health care across the United Arab Emirates. The service has been operating in the UAE for nine years and since March 2018 the Service has been working with Emirates Health Services (EHS) to support the development of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital into a Centre of Excellence. The service requires a Head of Education and Training, based within what is currently the Region’s only Hospital dedicated to psychiatric care. It is a truly exciting and unique opportunity to be part of a senior and experienced team working to support the further development of existing services and influence and shape new services in great facilities. You would be working closely with experienced senior staff from Maudsley Health and the in-house leadership team at the Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital. The Hospital has JCI Accreditation. Mental Health services are still developing in the Region and the ability to use initiative, a degree of flexibility and creativity will be required together with an appreciation of relevant cultural issues. Of greatest importance is the ambition to deliver high quality, evidence-based services. Main duties of the job Working closely with the Senior Management Team, to initiate, deliver and embed programmes of education and development to enhance the safety, experience and outcomes of people using services, and to improve the skill and satisfaction of staff delivering care. This will be achieved by the provision of: Meaningful mandatory training Postgraduate training in mental health nursing Advanced clinical training for all professionals Leadership and management development Research and development opportunities Implementation of a credible weekly training programme Supervision and appraisal Supportive work placements for staff on secondment and rotation from UK, UAE and elsewhere Close collaboration with the quality team in order to ensure JCIA compliance and achieve further accreditations in the field of mental health. This role is to support the development of a Centre of Excellence, working closely with the Senior Management Team at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital. The postholder should enhance the reputation of Maudsley Health, Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. About us Maudsley Health is the brand name for the collaboration between South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and MACANI, the local partner. It was formed in 2015 to support the development of high-quality mental health services within the Middle East. Ambitious development plans are being progressed and the service is growing geographically and clinically in a planned way. The service provides evidence-based assessments and treatments on an out-patient basis for all age ranges and presentations from wellbeing and prevention through to the most complex of presentations. The service adopts a multi-disciplinary approach. Training, development, consultation and advice is offered and collaborative working with other professionals, families and patients is encouraged within a supportive environment. A specialist Perinatal service and a specialist Trauma service are in place and additional specialist services are planned. An Academic Department is currently being formed to encourage and support research and education. In 2025 a Maudsley Health Hospital will open in Abu Dhabi. In Dubai, Maudsley Health works under a contractual arrangement with Emirates Health Services (EHS) to support the development of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, currently the Region’s only Hospital dedicated to psychiatric care. The post of Head of Education and Training, Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital is based in Dubai. Job description Job responsibilities The postholder is expected to achieve the following outcomes in key result areas: Achieving Professional Excellence Provide meaningful mandatory training based on assessed needs, reviewed annually and after significant events. Ensure staff understand their authority, accountability, and responsibilities to the Professional Code. Oversee Clinical Resource Nurses and deliver training, including simulation and experiential learning. Workforce Development Develop and report an annual workforce development plan with relevant professional heads. Ensure staff access clinical and leadership training aligned with service delivery plans. Support managers in identifying learning needs and developing training plans. Contribute to workforce planning, and produce regular accurate compliance training registers to be shared with services. Professional Leadership Encourage staff engagement and participation in satisfaction surveys. Ensure staff have resources to evaluate their practice and access expert advice. Promote access to best practice examples and escalate serious breaches of the professional code. Although not essential, a clinical post-holder should role-model excellent care and professional boundaries. Service Development, Promotion, Research, and Evaluation Develop a Continuous Development Programme, liaising with internal and external clinical experts. Ensure events attract CME points and promote innovative care practices. Empower staff to monitor care delivery and contribute to decision-making. In conjunction with the Academic Director and Senior Discipline Leads, support clinical staff in audits, evaluations, and research, integrating evidence into practice. Person Specification Experience Essential Experience of working at a mid to senior level including managing change and introducing new ways of working. Experience of working with mental health professionals. Experience of developing and implementing organisational strategies and policies. Delivering high quality presentations to a mixed audience. Partnership working with other statutory and voluntary organisations. Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and knowledge of methods to develop culturally sensitive clinical practice management experience. Developing audit tools/conducting audits. Desirable Experience of research, publication and presentations. Knowledge of the current policy context and the implications for mental health practice. Education and Qualifications Essential Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject (or significant experience of UK education and training systems). Evidence of CPD. Desirable Registered Nurse (Mental Health). Registered clinician (mental health). Knowledge Essential Knowledge of UK mental health services. Understanding of the need for confidentiality. An awareness of equality issues affecting a wide range of individuals and groups. Desirable Knowledge of pre and post registration professional curricula. An understanding of relevant UAE legislation.
