The Trust has an exciting opportunity for a full time Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join National and Specialist CAMHS Inpatient services. The post holder will develop, lead and deliver excellence in inpatient care for adolescents in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
The new Maudsley Adolescent Unit represents the development and progression of Snowsfields Adolescent Unit (SAU) as it enters its new home in the purpose built Pears Maudsley Centre at the Maudsley Hospital. This service will operate alongside existing inpatient teams that are part of the South London Partnership, including the Bethlem Adolescent Unit (BAU), Bethlem Adolescent Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (BAPICU) and Aquarius Unit, at Springfield Hospital. (This job description will refer to SAU and MAU, but they represent the same service in its current and future iteration). The availability of this post is due to the departure of the previous incumbent.
The opening of the Pears Maudsley Centre is an exciting time for this service, and CAMHS as a whole.
Main duties of the job
This post involves direct assessment of all admissions, formulation of treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), liaison with other agencies (both health and partner organisations), supervision of junior medical staff, chairing of meetings with both clinical and non-clinical agenda and facilitating safe and effective discharge in collaboration with community services.
This is a notional timetable. It can be adapted to meet the needs of the post holder and the service, in the context of the job planning process with the lead clinician. There will be a 7.5/2.5 DCC/SPA split. Although there are no specific additional responsibilities associated with the post, the post holder would be encouraged to take up additional roles commensurate with their seniority and interests, to be incorporated into their negotiated job. These could include lead roles in education and training (undergraduate or postgraduate), safeguarding, clinical governance, or other aspect of medical leadership.
The consultant role involves providing clinical and medical leadership for both the MDT and junior medical staff.
