Who we are
South Lanarkshire Council delivers a wide range of services that touch all communities and every household in South Lanarkshire. Property Services, within Housing and Technical Resources, is responsible for the delivery of maintenance and improvement works to the Council's property portfolio.
Property Services is split between three service areas:
- Building Services
- Assets and Estates
- Consultancy Services
Building Services is responsible for delivering construction and improvement projects in addition to undertaking maintenance works across the Council's property portfolio, and we are looking for a variety of Trade Modern Apprentices to join the team.
Who we are looking for

We are specifically looking for applicants who recently attended a South Lanarkshire Council secondary school and/or live in the South Lanarkshire area. Applicants must be 16 years of age by 26/09/2026 and no older than 19 years of age by 06/08/2026. Disabled or care-experienced applicants aged 20–29 by 06/08/2026 may be eligible to apply if they meet essential criteria.
Applicants will become qualified and time served in their trade through a mix of on-the-job experience with qualified tradespeople and off-the-job experience at college, gaining underpinning knowledge and recognised qualifications while developing core skills.

As these are apprentice trainee opportunities, no prior experience or qualifications are required, but an interest and understanding of the trade is important.

Stage 1 – Submitting your application. Check that you meet the essential criteria in the job profile. Complete the online application and provide answers to the five questions below on a separate document.
Stage 2 – Online Assessment. All applicants must register for and complete the online assessment. Key dates below are indicative and subject to change.
Stage 3 – Applications scored by Recruitment Panel (Shortlist). Top scoring applicants will be invited to interview.
Stage 4 – Interview. Interviews will be held in late April 2026. Availability during the period is required.
Application questions (examples): Q1–Q5 cover motivation, trade interest, suitability, communication, and customer care.
Eligibility notes: If you do not meet essential criteria, your application will be withdrawn. CVs are not accepted; apply online.
Stage 2 – Online Assessment dates
Registration guidance issued: Friday 20 February 2026. Candidate registration deadline: Tuesday 24 February 2026 12:00. Online assessment opens: Wednesday 25 February 2026. Assessment deadline: Tuesday 3 March 2026 12:00. Important: those who fail to register by the deadline will be withdrawn.
Stage 4 – Interview and feedback
Interviews will be held between 20 and 30 April 2026. Feedback on unsuccessful applications can be requested by email before 22 May 2026 and will be provided between 26–29 May 2026.
