We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Finance Team as an Accountant. This post is based in the Strategy Team where you will provide financial support to services within Education Resources. You will be responsible to the Finance Adviser for the effective delivery of the finance provision in accordance with the Council’s statutory responsibilities, policies and procedures.
You will be required to contribute towards providing quality advice and support to Council departments to allow them to deliver services to the communities of South Lanarkshire. You will be involved in forecasting, setting budgets for the year and monitoring the performance against these budgets. Assistance in year end accounts preparation will also be a key role. Other elements of the job include preparation of financial returns, preparation of committee reports and general financial stewardship of the Council's financial resource.
The Individual
The successful candidate should have experience within a financial environment (ideally public sector) and evidence technical job knowledge and expertise and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the finance function within a specialist area and cross working within an organisation. You should be able to demonstrate compliance with professional codes of practice.
As part of the role, you will be required to challenge, support, and improve existing business practices, reporting on their effectiveness, reliability, and/or value for money to provide assurance to management and stakeholders. You should be able to highlight risks and make recommendations for management. You should also have experience in project management with associated governance responsibilities with the ability to prepare and scrutinise financial reports, budgets, accounts, and performance indicators.
You must hold a Professional Accountancy qualification and membership of appropriate professional body and/or demonstrate extensive experience in a financial management role to apply for this post. Candidates that do not provide evidence of this will not be progressed.
