Overview

South Lanarkshire Council are looking for enthusiastic, motivated staff to support the learning and development of young children within our Early Learning and Childcare establishments. You will work as an effective member of the Early Learning and Childcare Team, supporting the delivery of a high quality service which supports children and staff and contributes to a positive ethos.

Responsibilities

  • Support the learning and development of children in Early Learning and Childcare settings.
  • Work as part of a team and communicate effectively with children, parents/carers and team members.
  • Respond to young children’s needs with care, including personal care when required, making it a positive and respectful experience.
  • Support children displaying distressed behaviours using appropriate approaches.
  • Ensure a high quality service and contribute to a positive ethos within the learning environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a support worker, or willingness to obtain one of the following qualifications:
    • NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6
    • SVQ 2 Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6
    • SVQ 2 Children’s Care Learning and Development at SCQF Level 2
  • Support will be provided to successful candidates who do not hold a relevant qualification to obtain one.
  • Overseas Criminal Records Check may be required for applicants born outside the UK or who have lived/worked outside the UK; checks must be translated into English and meet specified criteria.
  • Disclosures and safeguarding: PVG scheme checks may be required prior to a formal offer, and applicants must not be barred from working with children or adults.

Actual closing date: Applications must be received by 23 October 2025, 11:55pm. This is a permanent post with 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm. Salary: £13.33 - £14.33 per hour.
