Location: Forrest Street Depot, 18 Forrest Street, Blantyre, G72 0JP

Hours: 35 hours per week

Work Pattern: Monday - Thursday 8:45am - 4:05pm and Friday 8:05am - 4:15pm

Salary: £54,783 - £59,911 annual salary

South Lanarkshire Council is looking for an experienced and ambitious manager to join our Waste Services team as a Waste Adviser (Waste Operations). Reporting to the Waste and Grounds Operations Manager, you will play a key leadership role in the management and continuous improvement of one of Scotland's largest waste collection services. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong operational management experience who enjoys leading people, improving performance and delivering high-quality services to local communities. You will support the safe, efficient and customer-focused delivery of waste collection services across South Lanarkshire.

Working with operational managers, supervisors and teams, you will help improve performance, support people and safe working practices, make effective use of resources, and build positive relationships with customers, partners and stakeholders.

What you'll be doing:

  • Service Leadership and Delivery: support the safe, efficient and effective delivery of waste collection services, working with managers, supervisors and teams to plan resources, resolve issues and maintain high standards.
  • Performance, Improvement and Best Value: use operational, financial and performance information to improve productivity, support decision-making and identify opportunities to deliver better value and better services.
  • People, Safety and Compliance: provide leadership and support to operational teams, contribute to workforce planning and development, and promote safe working practices in line with legislation, Council policies and procedures.
  • Customers, Stakeholders and Partnerships: respond to complex service enquiries and complaints, build positive relationships with residents, elected members, partners and internal teams, and represent the service when required.

What we're looking for:

You'll have substantial experience managing operational teams in a customer-focused environment, together with excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience within waste management, environmental services, transport operations, or another large-scale operational service would be advantageous. Most importantly, you'll be someone who can motivate teams, challenge existing ways of working, and deliver measurable service improvements.
