Permanent Post. Location: Carluke Primary School. Hours: 35 hours per week. Salary: Principal Teacher 2, £59,727 per year.

Our curriculum will provide opportunities for all children to develop skills for learning, life and work as well as encouraging our pupils to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. We aim to deliver a curriculum which is challenging and exciting, which allows for breadth and depth of learning, but most importantly, is relevant for the pupils of Carluke Primary School and Nursery. Our aspiration is to provide experiences which enable all pupils to achieve their full potential, allowing and encouraging them to fulfil their aspirations both within and beyond the school.

Subject to the policies and practice of the School and the Council, the duties of principal teachers are, in addition to any duties of a teacher that may apply, to:

  • lead, manage and support the work of colleagues providing strategic direction and guidance as necessary;
  • lead curriculum development and quality assurance;
  • contribute to the development of school policy in relation to the behaviour management of pupils;
  • review and support professional needs, and performance of colleagues through career-long professional learning;
  • where required, lead, implement and manage whole school policies including, where appropriate, guidance, pastoral care and behaviour support.

Principal Teachers must be given a reduction in weekly class contact to enable them to carry out those duties which are in addition to their duties as classroom teacher. Its extent may vary according to the nature and scope of those duties. The additional duties of principal teachers must be capable of being undertaken within the 35-hour working week and, where a principal teacher retains a classroom teacher role, within the arrangements agreed at establishment level through the working time agreement.

Teacher Salary: In line with the Teachers’ Conditions of Service, your salary for the remainder of this school salary year, which runs in conjunction with the academic session, may be recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue pay. GTC Registration: It is a legal requirement for any teacher teaching in a Scottish state school to be registered with GTC Scotland, General Teaching Council (Scotland) Registration.

Overseas Criminal Records Check: An Overseas Criminal Records Check is required where applicants born outside the UK (Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland) or who have lived or worked outside the UK for a continuous period of three months in the past 10 years. Applicants are responsible for providing evidence of the Overseas Criminal Record Check. The check must be translated into English and should come from the police, judicial authority, government department or home embassy of the country or countries concerned.
