Location: Low Parks Museum, Muir Street, Hamilton

Hours: 35 hours per week

Shift Pattern: (2 week rota)

  • Week 1: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (1 hour unpaid lunch)
  • Week 2: Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm (1 hour unpaid lunch)

Salary: £29,326 - £29,745 per annum

Duration: Fixed Term until 31st March 2027

Job Profile: South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture are looking for an Assistant Museum Officer to be a key member of the museum development team. The successful applicant will help support, develop, and deliver on all aspects of learning, access, and education within a busy local authority museum environment. The role includes the development of learning and access resources, contributing to the Museum’s formal and informal learning events programmes, and supporting the development of effective links with internal and external partners, community groups, and other stakeholders in the museum service.

The role may also include a degree of collections work, contributing to the development and installation of exhibitions, and identifying and obtaining funding to deliver museum development projects in line with organisational and sector priorities.

Applicants should hold a post graduate museum qualification or be educated to degree level and have a minimum of one year’s museum experience. Knowledge and/or experience of working to sector standards and guidelines such as SPECTRUM and the Museum Accreditation Scheme are essential. Good written communication and report writing skills, and experience of working with a museum collections management system are also desirable.

Applicants will undergo a competency-based interview and a short, practical exercise in collections handling and interpretation.
