Job Profile
South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture are looking for an Assistant Museum Officer to be a key member of the museum development team. The successful applicant will support, develop and help deliver all aspects of collections care for a large, local authority museum collection. The role includes processing acquisitions, cataloguing, inventory, collections research, exhibition development, and identifying and obtaining funding to deliver collections development projects in line with organisational and sector priorities.
Knowledge and/or experience of working to sector standards and guidelines such as SPECTRUM and the Museum Accreditation Scheme are essential. Good written communication and report writing skills, and experience of working with a museum collections management system are also desirable, as well as knowledge of British/Scottish military history.
Applicants should hold a post graduate museum qualification or be educated to degree level and have a minimum of one year’s museum experience. Holding a valid driving licence is desirable.
The successful candidate will be determined through a competency‑based interview and a short, practical exercise in collections handling.
