South Lanarkshire Council delivers a wide range of services that touch all communities and every household in the region. Property Services, within Housing and Technical Resources, is responsible for the delivery of maintenance and improvement works to the Council’s property portfolio. Building Services is responsible for delivering construction and improvement projects in addition to undertaking maintenance works across the Council’s property portfolio, and we are looking for a variety of Trade Modern Apprentices to join the team.
Location & Working Hours
- Location: Various locations – Fixed term for 4 years.
- Hours: 37 hours per week.
- Work Pattern: Monday to Thursday 8.00am – 4.30pm, Friday 8.00am – 1.30pm.
- Salary / Hourly Rate: £25,715 – £27,047.
About the Role
- You will assist in construction and improvement projects, alongside qualified and experienced tradespeople.
- Participate in maintenance works across the Council’s property portfolio.
- Attend off‑job training at college, gaining the underpinning knowledge and recognised qualifications required for your chosen trade.
- Develop core skills such as communication and customer care through the work you carry out.
Qualifications & Eligibility
- No previous experience or qualifications in the chosen trade required.
- Must have recently attended a South Lanarkshire Council secondary school and/or live in the South Lanarkshire area.
- Age 16 by 26/09/2026 and no older than 19 by 06/08/2026.
- Disabled or care‑experienced applicants aged 20‑29 who meet the essential criteria may also apply.
Application Process
- Submit the online application (must be completed before 18 February 2026, 11:59pm).
- Complete the five application questions and submit them as a separate document.
- Register for the online assessment and complete it before 24 February 2026, 12:00pm.
- Recruitment panel will score the applications. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to interview.
- Interviews are scheduled between 20 and 30 April 2026. Ensure you are available for these dates.
- Unsuccessful candidates may request feedback by emailing ModernApprentice@Southlanarkshire.gov.uk before 22 May 2026, 3:00pm. Feedback will be provided between 26 and 29 May 2026.
Interview Details
- Interviews are held between Monday 20 April and Thursday 30 April 2026. It will not be possible to reschedule interviews outside of these dates.
