Hours: 37 hours per week
Work Pattern: Monday - Friday (during the hours of 8am - 5pm, pattern under review) with weekend and public holiday working required

Community and Enterprise Resources are seeking to appoint a Crematorium Assistant within South Lanarkshire Crematorium, Blantyre. The successful applicant will be working within a small team and as such due to the extremely sensitive nature of working in a crematorium are expected to perform tasks in a dignified and professional manner. Applicants should have excellent communication and customer care skills with the ability to work as part of a team or independently. You should be able to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of a crematorium and be comfortable and confident speaking in public. You must have the ability to work under pressure with a sensitive and compassionate manner. A certificate of proficiency in the practical and ethical operation of cremation equipment issued by either the FBCA or ICCM is an essential criteria along with attention to detail and good keyboard skills.
This role includes working within the grounds of the crematorium on an as needed basis to assist in maintaining the high standard of the grounds. Applicants should be aware when applying for this role it requires to be working daily with the bereaved and it is a requirement to be mindful of the sensitivities and heightened emotions for those who are using/visiting our premises. This is a front-line role, and you may be approached by those affected in what is a most distressing time for them, as such you should bear this in mind when considering applying for this post.
The main duties and responsibilities will include:
- Service room operations (including guiding mourners, assisting funeral directors, manage music/webcast/slideshow requirements on services)
- Crematory operations (including all aspects of cremation process, daily maintenance and checks of cremators and ancillary equipment)
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping of service room during working day
- Carrying out dispersal of ashes whether witnessed or unwitnessed
- Grounds maintenance work including grass cutting, planting, small construction work
The service provides services throughout the year in all types of weather. Service provision includes public holidays and weekends, it is therefore an essential criterion that the successful candidates are expected to be available to work during these times and conditions.
Preferred candidates identified after the selection event process will be required to assist the recruitment team, if need be, to ensure timely completion of recruitment checks. If recruitment checks are not completed within a reasonable timescale, you may automatically be withdrawn from this position.

An Overseas Criminal Records Check is required where applicants born outside the UK (Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland) or who have lived or worked outside the UK for a continuous period of three months in the past 10 years.
