Senior Environmental Health Officer – Environmental Protection
Full time, 37 hours per week | Grade SK15–SK16 (£43,365- £45,768 per annum)
The Role & The Team
The Environmental Protection Team within Public Protection are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and positive colleague, to work across the full range of Environmental Protection functions.
Reporting to the Community Safety Manager, you will join and line manage a small supportive team. The career-graded structure gives you the opportunity to demonstrate growing competence, broaden your knowledge and experience in line with the accompanying job description.
What you will do
- Take a lead role in delivering the councils environmental protection functions including:
- the investigation of statutory nuisance complaints,
- pollution control,
- environmental permitting,
- contaminated land investigation,
- stray dogs,
- public health (including rodent infestations, filthy and verminous premises and drainage issues),
- public health funerals,
- drainage,
- Statutory consultee for planning and licensing applications.
- Be responsible for supervising and providing guidance and technical advice to the team, and supporting them to use all tools and powers at their disposal.
- Support the Manager in developing service delivery, including the production and revision of policies and procedures, statistical returns and registers and providing support, training and guidance to colleagues.
- Working in line with the Council’s Enforcement Policy and other relevant procedures, independently and with minimal supervision, undertake investigations into breaches of legislation, determine the most appropriate course of action, prepare evidence, issue notices, compile reports and appear in Court or Tribunals on behalf of the Council.
- Give professional advice to a range of stakeholders, including Councillors, officers from wider Council service functions, members of the public, landlords etc. on the requirements of statutory provisions and technical advice on measures to implement these provisions.
- Undertake such other duties of a comparable nature and level of responsibility as may be required from time to time by the Line Manager/ Head of Service.
