We are seeking a skilled and reliable Plasterer to join our Housing Repairs team within South Holland District Council's Housing Department. The role is fixed term for 12 months.
South Holland District Council is the largest landlord in South Holland, providing lettings, tenancy and estate management to over 3800 properties. The Housing Repairs service is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repairs and refurbishment of the council's housing stock, which consists of general and sheltered housing, containing flats, bungalows and houses. Our aim is to provide safe and secure homes for our residents to live in, whilst upholding the values and standards of the Council and maintaining our landlord's strategic vision.
Working as a valuable member of the daytime team, the role also requires participation on the emergency out of hours rota, for which additional standby and call-out pay is awarded above the standard annual salary.
Key ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of plastering and trowel trade tasks in occupied and void properties, ensuring high standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction. You will be mobile based conducting on-site repairs to tenanted and void properties, working by yourself and as a team with a variety of tasks, to ensure properties are safe, functional, and well-maintained. Your role is crucial in maintaining the quality of our social housing and ensuring tenant satisfaction.
- Carry out plastering and flooring works to the Council's housing stock and premises, including full re-skims, patch repairs, rendering, self-levelling, tiling and making good after other trades.
- Prepare surfaces and finishes to a high standard, ensuring readiness for decoration or further works.
- Make informed decisions on the most appropriate repair methods, balancing cost-effectiveness and durability.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Maintain accurate communication with the office team regarding job progress, issues encountered, and completion status.
- Translate technical plastering issues into clear, understandable information for non-technical staff to support decision-making.
- NVQ Level 2 Plastering or equivalent time served.
- Proven experience in domestic or social housing maintenance.
- Full UK driving licence (company van provided).
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage workload.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with tenants and the public.
