Location: Fareham, Hampshire

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, dedicated and skilled Emotional Literacy Support Assistant to work 38 weeks per annum.

Duties:

  • To work with individuals or groups of young people with Education and Healthcare Plans and SEND, who are experiencing difficulties with emotional literacy or other aspects of college or home life
  • To establish supportive, caring and secure relationships with young people, and to be available to offer individual support and someone for a young person to talk to
  • To develop knowledge of a range of learning and behavioural support needs and to plan, devise and implement appropriate programmes to help develop young people’s emotional literacy skills and emotional wellbeing
  • To implement and review intervention programmes as outlined in individuals Education and Health Care Plans
  • To create, develop and produce resources for use with intervention programmes, as appropriate
  • Plan and deliver individualised programmes of support and generalised workshops to develop students\’ emotional literacy and build resilience.
  • Plan and deliver workshops to support the emotional literacy of all students.
  • To assist colleagues where necessary with the pastoral needs of students and collaborate with safeguarding and enrichment teams to introduce events and interventions for ensuring positive mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • To ensure that all records and case notes are kept up to date, distributed and filed in accordance with the college’s procedures, and that appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained

Skills/experience:

  • A knowledge and understanding of issues associated with developing and providing support to students/young people with additional needs
  • Experience of supporting students/young people with specific additional needs
  • Proven experience of dealing with behavioural issues and having the resilience required to deal with these challenging situations effectively

Qualifications:

  • Minimum GCSE grade 4 / C in English & Maths or equivalent.
  • Level 3 qualification or higher in a learning difficulties/disabilities related qualification

Ideal attributes of applicant:

  • Understand and apply psychological concepts introduced during through ELSA training and supervision
  • Understanding of SEND Code of practice
  • Ability to build trusting relationship with students, their parents/carers and other stakeholders
  • The ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and promote a good atmosphere in the department
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness – may include travel to other campuses
