Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (Term Time Only)
Location: Fareham, Hampshire
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, dedicated and skilled Emotional Literacy Support Assistant to work 38 weeks per annum.

Duties:
- To work with individuals or groups of young people with Education and Healthcare Plans and SEND, who are experiencing difficulties with emotional literacy or other aspects of college or home life
- To establish supportive, caring and secure relationships with young people, and to be available to offer individual support and someone for a young person to talk to
- To develop knowledge of a range of learning and behavioural support needs and to plan, devise and implement appropriate programmes to help develop young people’s emotional literacy skills and emotional wellbeing
- To implement and review intervention programmes as outlined in individuals Education and Health Care Plans
- To create, develop and produce resources for use with intervention programmes, as appropriate
- Plan and deliver individualised programmes of support and generalised workshops to develop students\’ emotional literacy and build resilience.
- Plan and deliver workshops to support the emotional literacy of all students.
- To assist colleagues where necessary with the pastoral needs of students and collaborate with safeguarding and enrichment teams to introduce events and interventions for ensuring positive mental health and emotional wellbeing
- To ensure that all records and case notes are kept up to date, distributed and filed in accordance with the college’s procedures, and that appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained
Skills/experience:
- A knowledge and understanding of issues associated with developing and providing support to students/young people with additional needs
- Experience of supporting students/young people with specific additional needs
- Proven experience of dealing with behavioural issues and having the resilience required to deal with these challenging situations effectively
Qualifications:
- Minimum GCSE grade 4 / C in English & Maths or equivalent.
- Level 3 qualification or higher in a learning difficulties/disabilities related qualification
Ideal attributes of applicant:
- Understand and apply psychological concepts introduced during through ELSA training and supervision
- Understanding of SEND Code of practice
- Ability to build trusting relationship with students, their parents/carers and other stakeholders
- The ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and promote a good atmosphere in the department
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility and resourcefulness – may include travel to other campuses
