Responsibilities

  • To liaise with the Maths and/or English teams and identify students that require additional support to progress their knowledge and skills in preparation for exams.
  • To deliver a range of interventions and provide individualised support to individuals and small groups to support their progress and reach their full potential.
  • Be responsible for maintaining accurate records of student engagement and progress using information systems.
  • To feedback on progress to students and staff members, creating, implementing, updating and recording interventions using information systems.
  • Take a lead in researching, designing and implementation of both paper and online learning resources that can be used to facilitate delivery of small group and 1:1 interventions.
  • To be a strong role model and advocate for maths & English learning at every opportunity.
  • To follow up with students who fail to attend intervention or disengage and re-engage whilst communicating with maths and/or English staff and student next of kin.
  • Plan and run intensive revision sessions for identified students in preparation for exams.
  • Collaborate with Curriculum Managers to identify those maths and/or English students not engaging in maths and/or English and devise interventions to re-engage, communicating these and agreeing suitable targets.
  • Regularly communicate with identified students\' Next of Kin to support engagement with maths and/or English.
  • Support maths & English staff during enrolment weeks to ensure appropriate interventions are sought and implemented timely.
  • Facilitate and run the Maths and/or English Hub area ensuring resources are available and meet the needs of maths and English students.
  • Contribute towards KPI, QIP and other curriculum activities within the Maths and/or English department.
  • Attend and represent the college at business development and open events where needed.

Skills/Experience

  • Delivering English and/or maths to young people
  • Experience of coaching individuals to achieve a goal
  • Experience of supporting English and/or maths to small groups or one to one basis

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 2 in Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in English/maths

  • Ability to motivate individuals and small groups in English and/or maths
  • Ability to enthuse individuals and small groups
  • Ability to engage students that are demotivated or lack confidence to improve their English and/or maths skills
